Vincent “Vinny” Catalano is a professional dog trainer and behavior counselor with over 20 years of experience specializing in canine aggression, reactivity, and multi-dog household dynamics. He is the President and co-owner of The Coventry School, where his work focuses on behavior modification using scientifically based, positive reinforcement methods.
Vinny co-developed a comprehensive rehabilitation program for dog-aggressive dogs that has become a model for similar “growl classes” nationwide and is recommended by behavior professionals across the country. His training approach emphasizes classical conditioning, emotional regulation, and clear communication to help reactive dogs achieve long-term behavioral improvement.
In addition to his work with private clients, Vinny has extensive experience supporting shelter and working dogs. His background includes conducting pre-adoption temperament evaluations, developing behavior modification protocols for shelter dogs, creating therapy dog testing standards, streamlining volunteer training programs, and assisting handlers training their own assistance dogs. He served on an IAABC task force focused on shelter protocols and is a former Delta Society Pet Partner Evaluator.
Vinny is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC), and a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI). He was among the first CNWIs certified in New Jersey through the National Association of Canine Scent Work. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Graduate Certificate in the Advanced Psychology of Animal Behavior and Conservation from CUNY Hunter College. Vinny is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, the Animal Behavior Society, and the National Association of Canine Scent Work.
